Welcome

Welcome to the home page of IOSH Bristol and West of England Branch. We are an active branch with almost 1100 members representing a broad and very diverse range of industry and commerce within the public and private sectors.

We emphasise that the role of the safety practitioner is one of being an 'enabler' rather than 'jobsworth' and encourage the approach of 'yes you can do it, but do it safely'!!

RoSPA’s Road Safety Department, and as part of their charity work are running a project in partnership with the Driving Standards Agency about Driving for Work and are seeking the views of employers of young drivers.

The main way RoSPA is doing this is via an online questionnaire which can be completed through this link to their web page.
The main areas of investigation for the questionnaire are

  • the views of employers on how well the present system of driver training and testing prepares young people for the sort of driving they do for work
  • whether employers would recognise and make use of a 'driving for work qualification' when recruiting or managing young staff who drive as part of their job, and
  • if so, what should be included in such a qualification or training programme.
As part of the project RoSPA are also running more in depth interviews with some managers, and focus groups with young at-work drivers themselves. The results of the project will be freely available and of use to road safety professionals and managers of young drivers – to help better understanding of the risks and ways of reducing them. The Executive Committee of IOSH Bristol and West Branch encourage you to contribute to this project in the hope that it may reduce the number of work and non-work related road traffic injuries and fatalities involving young drivers.
